Disposer Repair in Houston

We repair Maytag disposers that hum without turning, leak, jam or smell. Tell us what you hear when you switch it on and where the water shows up, so the visit starts in the right place.

01What goes wrong

Common disposer problems we fix

In the order we see them across Houston homes.

01

Humming but blades not turning

02

Disposer silent when switched on

03

Leak under the sink or at the flange

04

Slow drain or backup on the other side

05

Loud grinding or metallic scraping

06

Odor that returns after cleaning

A Maytag disposer sits under the sink, grinds food into small pieces with a spinning plate, and flushes it down the drain with water. A small motor, a grinding chamber, a sink flange, a drain connection and an overload reset button make up the whole system.

In Houston kitchens, grease and starchy food scraps build up in the drain line, and the disposer is often blamed for a clog that starts farther down the pipe. Hard water also leaves scale around seals and connections.

We check the power, the reset, the shaft and the chamber, then the flange and drain connection. Older disposers that have run for many years are often worth repairing only if the housing is sound, and we give honest advice about that. A drain clog beyond the disposer goes to a plumber, and we say so.

05Disposer questions
The disposer buzzes yet the blades stay still. Can I free it?

With the power off, you can turn the shaft from underneath with a hex key, or use a wooden spoon handle from above. Never put a hand into it. If it jams again, we check the motor and the wiring.

Why does it leak from the bottom?

A leak at the bottom usually means a seal or the housing has failed, which is not a simple fix. A leak at the sink flange or the drain connection is easier to correct, and we find the source before quoting.

Is a disposer repair worth it?

On a recent unit, usually, if the problem is a jam, a reset or a connection. On an older unit with a failed housing or seals, replacement is often the better value, and we tell you so before work starts.
