Finding Parts for an Older Maytag Washer or Dryer

Older Maytag laundry machines are often repairable years after production ended. Here is how parts availability works and what to have ready before a visit.

The most common worry we hear from owners of older Maytag laundry machines is that parts no longer exist. Often they do. Belts, pumps, switches, valves, igniters and thermal fuses are shared across many models and many years, so a machine can be repairable long after its model was discontinued.

What Tends to Be Easy to Find

  • Wear items that every washer and dryer needs: belts, rollers, door switches, lid switches and drain pumps.
  • Heating parts on dryers, including elements, igniters and thermostats.
  • Water inlet valves, hoses and filters.

What Can Be Harder

Electronic control boards and cosmetic pieces such as an unusual console panel are the usual trouble spots on very old models. A board may still be available new, available rebuilt, or no longer available at all. We check before we promise anything.

What to Have Ready

  1. The full model and serial number from the rating plate, usually inside the door frame or lid, or on the back panel.
  2. A phone photo of the plate and of any part you can see is loose or burned.
  3. What the machine did right before it stopped.

When the Part Decides the Outcome

If the one part a machine needs cannot be had, replacing the machine is the sensible path, and we tell you that instead of working around the problem. The model number lets us look the part up before the visit, so you are not paying for a trip that cannot end in a repair.

Rebuilt and refurbished parts are another route for older models, and we tell you which kind we are quoting so the price and warranty are clear.

Maytag dryer repair and the washer page both cover older models. Send the model number when you book and we will check parts first. Our service area list shows which cities we visit.

Tell us the model and the code. We will bring the part.
