What 3d31, 3d32 or 3d41 means
These three codes appear on Maytag electric and gas ranges with a meat probe feature, such as the MER8850DS. The message is about the meat probe: the control does not see it properly connected to the receptacle inside the oven, and the receptacle location varies by model. The owner sees the code during a probe-based cook or when the oven starts, and the cycle may not begin. A loose plug is the first thing to rule out, since the circuit is otherwise simple.
Common causes of 3d31, 3d32 or 3d41
- Probe plug not fully seated in the oven receptacle
- Probe cable or tip worn from repeated use
- Receptacle or wiring behind it with a poor connection
- Oven control reading the probe circuit
1. With the oven cool, check that the meat probe is pushed all the way into its receptacle; the location differs by model. 2. Remove the probe if you are not using it for this cook. 3. Turn off the range's breaker for one minute, then switch it back on. 4. Watch the oven for one minute to see if the code returns. 5. Verify oven operation with a normal bake.
- If the code stays with the probe removed, the receptacle, wiring or control needs testing and a reset cannot settle it.
- We try a known good probe and inspect the receptacle, so you do not pay to replace a part that was fine.
Other Range codes
Do I need the meat probe to use the oven?
No. If you are baking without the probe, take it out of the receptacle so the control stops looking for it. Normal bake and broil should then run without these codes.
Where is the probe receptacle?
It sits inside the oven cavity, usually on a side wall, though the exact spot varies by model. Your use and care guide shows it. Make sure the plug is pushed in fully and sits straight.
Why would the code appear with no probe plugged in?
The control checks that circuit at startup. A damaged receptacle, wiring or the control itself can send a reading that looks like a bad probe. We test each before replacing anything.
