What F9-1, F9-2 or F9-3 means
F9-1, F9-2 and F9-3 appear on Maytag electric and gas freestanding and slide-in ranges, including the MER7765WS0. They point to the oven door latch, the door lock switch or the wiring between them. The control looks for a clear locked or unlocked answer and does not get one. Owners may see a door that stays locked, a clean cycle that will not start or a bake that ends early. These hyphenated F9 codes are not the same as a plain F9, which points to wiring in the house.
Common causes of F9-1, F9-2 or F9-3
- Oven door latch
- Door lock switch
- Latch wiring and connector
- Door fit against the frame
1. Let the oven cool before touching the door. 2. Close the door gently and make sure the latch area is free. 3. Turn the range's circuit breaker off for one minute and on again. 4. Check the display after a minute for a return of the code. 5. Check that the oven runs normally, and leave a stuck door alone.
- Which of the three parts caused the code is not shown by the display.
- We run the latch through its motion, test the switch and trace the wiring, and quote the repair in writing first.
Other Range codes
Is F9-1 the same as a plain F9?
No. F9-1, F9-2 and F9-3 concern the door latch and lock switch. A plain F9 or F9 E0 points to how the range is wired at the house supply, which is a different matter.
Why does the code differ by number?
The number records which latch check did not pass. For you they share the same repair area, and we use the number as a starting clue.
What if the door will not unlock?
Let the oven cool and do not pry the door. We can free the latch and find out why it stuck without bending the door or frame.
