What C means
On Maytag under-cabinet and wall vent hoods with filter alarms, such as the UXT4230AYS and UXT3030ADW, a C in the display is a reminder, not a failure. After 120 hours of fan operation the hood shows C while the fan is running. It means the charcoal filters are due for washing. The filter can be cleaned and reactivated. After cleaning, press and hold FAN for 3 seconds to reset the alarm, and the C goes away.
Common causes of C
- Charcoal filter saturation alarm reached
- Filter not reset after cleaning
1. Switch off the hood and let it cool. 2. Wash the charcoal filter as your owner's manual describes, and let it dry thoroughly before replacing it. 3. Put the filter back in the hood. 4. Press and hold FAN for 3 seconds to reset the alarm, so the C no longer shows.
- If C returns right after a reset, the reminder timer may not be clearing
- If the fan or lights also misbehave, the control needs a test
- Price in writing first, and a 30-day workmanship warranty

Is the C on my vent hood an error?
No. It reminds you the charcoal filter has run for 120 hours of fan operation. Clean the filter, put it back, and reset the alarm so the reminder stops showing.
How do I reset the C alarm?
Press and hold FAN for 3 seconds after you have cleaned the filter. The C will no longer be displayed. The alarm then starts counting hours again from zero.
The C is still on after I cleaned the filter.
Make sure you held FAN for the full 3 seconds. If it still shows after that, tell us. We can check the hood's control and fan and tell you what is happening.
Still unsure about C?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
