What F3T2 means

An F3T2 on a Maytag over-the-range microwave means the control sees a problem with the convection thermistor, or with the wiring that carries its signal. That thermistor tells the control how hot the convection chamber is. Without a believable reading, the microwave shows F3T2 and may stop convection or combination cooking. It is common on older over-the-range units that still heat well in everyday use.

Common causes of F3T2

  • The convection thermistor and its signal
  • Wiring between the thermistor and the control
  • Control response after a power interruption
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the microwave's circuit breaker off and count a full minute. 2. Turn the breaker on again. 3. Leave the microwave idle for one minute and check that F3T2 does not come back. 4. Try an ordinary microwave cycle, then a convection cycle if your model has one.

! Why to stop there
  • Whether the thermistor itself or the connector leading to it is the problem cannot be told from outside
  • We read the circuit before replacing anything
  • The price is written down and approved by you first, and the work is under our 30-day warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F3T2F3T2 questions
My microwave heats but F3T2 shows. Why?

Plain microwave heating and convection heating use different parts. The convection thermistor can be the one with trouble while the rest still works, so we check that sensor path and its wiring.

Can I clear F3T2 by unplugging the microwave?

Most over-the-range units are wired for a breaker, so use the breaker for one minute instead. A reset only tells you whether the code was a one-time event. If it returns, the circuit needs testing.

Is F3T2 worth repairing on an older Maytag?

Often yes, since the sensor circuit is a limited repair. We give you the written price first and say honestly if the age of the microwave makes a repair a poor choice.
