What F8E6 means
Maytag top-load HE washers with electronic control, from the Bravos era up to current MVW models like the MVW7232HC, can display F8E6. Depending on the model it carries one of two meanings. Either the lid was opened during the soak cycle, and closing it resumes the cycle, or no hot water was detected. For the second reading, the first check is whether the hot and cold inlet hoses are reversed.
Common causes of F8E6
- A lid raised during a soak stage
- Hot and cold inlet hoses connected to the wrong inlets
- No hot water arriving at the washer, for example a closed hot tap
- The inlet valves or temperature sensing, once the supply is confirmed
1. Close the lid. If the cycle was soaking, it should resume. 2. If the code stays, turn off the water supply. 3. Match each hose to its inlet by the HOT and COLD markings, and swap the hoses if they are crossed. 4. Open both taps fully and confirm the hot water reaches the washer. 5. Unplug for 5 minutes, restore power and restart.
- Correct hoses and a closed lid with the code returning leave the hot-water sensing for us to test
- Which of the two meanings applies depends on the model, so we match it to your washer first
- We say plainly if an older Bravos-era washer is not worth repairing, and the price comes in writing first
Other Washer codes
Which F8E6 do I have, lid or hot water?
It depends on the model. The washer shows the same code for both, so check the lid first, then the hoses and the hot water supply.
Can reversed hoses really trigger it?
Yes. The guidance notes that hot and cold inlet hoses installed incorrectly can cause an F8E6 on these top-loaders. Turn the water off before switching them.
Do you repair older Bravos washers?
Yes. Bravos is an older design, yet plenty of Houston households still run one, and we work on them. The price is written down before we start, and if repairing it makes no sense we will tell you so.
Still seeing F8E6?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
