What LE means

LE comes from the Maytag Neptune 27-inch front-load washers, the MAH8700A and MAH9700AW series. The control reads the water level through a sensor, and LE means the signal from that sensor is out of range. The washer beeps and pauses the wash. Neptunes are an older platform that Houston homes still rely on, and we do repair them. When a repair would cost more than the washer deserves, we say so before you spend anything.

Common causes of LE

  • The water level sensor and its small hose or connector
  • Wiring between the sensor and the control
  • The control board input, after the sensor side tests good
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Cancel the running cycle from the keypad. 2. Let the washer drain if there is water in the drum. 3. Restart a short cycle and listen for normal filling. 4. If LE shows again, do not keep restarting the washer; note when it appears.

What does LE mean on a Neptune?

The signal coming from the water level sensor is out of range. The washer beeps and pauses the wash, because it can no longer judge how much water is in the tub.

Will water overflow because of LE?

The control relies on that sensor to judge level. If water keeps entering a paused washer, shut off the taps and call us before running it again.

Can an old Neptune be fixed for this?

Often yes. We test the sensor, its wiring and the control first, give the price in writing before any work, and warrant what we repair for 30 days. If it is not worth it, we say so.
