What OE means
OE is an overflow message from the Maytag Neptune 27-inch front-load washers, the MAH8700A and MAH9700AW series. The water level sensor is reporting a problem, and the frequency data shows the water level at or above the overflow level. The reading may be true or may be the sensor itself, and from the code alone we cannot tell which. Neptunes are an older platform we still repair in Houston homes, and we are frank when a repair is not worth it.
Common causes of OE
- Water actually standing too high in the tub, from a valve that lets water through
- A water level sensor or its hose giving a false overflow reading
- Wiring between the sensor and the control
1. Press the power button to cancel the cycle. 2. Turn off both water taps behind the washer. 3. Look through the door for the water level and for any water on the floor. 4. If water is high, leave the washer unplugged until it has been inspected.
- We need to know if the tub really is overfull or the sensor is wrong, and the code cannot say
- Water that rises with the washer off means an inlet valve problem, which we test directly
- The price is in writing first, and we tell you plainly if an older Neptune is not worth fixing

What does OE mean on my Neptune?
The water level sensor reports the level at or above the overflow level. Either the water really is too high, or the sensor reading is wrong, and we have to find out which one it is.
What should I do first?
Shut off both taps and cancel the cycle. If water has collected on the floor or the tub is very full, unplug the washer and call us.
Can you fix a Neptune for this?
Usually, once we know whether it is the valve or the sensor. We quote in writing first and warrant repairs for 30 days. If the numbers do not add up for an old machine, we say so.
Still seeing OE?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
