What 4d11, 4d12, 4d51 or 4d52 means
Maytag electric and gas freestanding and slide-in ranges, for example the MER8650ES, show 4d11, 4d12, 4d51 or 4d52 when the oven door latch assembly, the door switch or their wiring is not reporting correctly. The control wants to know that the door is closed and, during cleaning, locked. When that answer does not make sense, it posts the code. The owner sees it on the display, and the oven may not start a bake or a self-clean cycle.
Common causes of 4d11, 4d12, 4d51 or 4d52
- Door latch assembly not moving or sensing as expected
- Door switch reporting an unclear state
- Wiring or connector in the latch circuit
- Door not closing squarely against the frame
1. Make sure the oven is off and cool, then close the door firmly and check nothing is blocking it. 2. Turn off the range's circuit breaker for one minute. 3. Turn the breaker on again. 4. Monitor the oven for one minute to see if the code returns. 5. Verify oven operation. Do not force a locked door open.
- A reset cannot tell whether the latch mechanism, the switch or the wiring is sending the wrong signal.
- We watch the latch cycle and test the switch, then explain what we found and quote the repair before starting.
Other Range codes
Why does an oven need a door switch?
The control uses it to confirm the door is shut before heating and locked before self-clean. If the signal is unclear, the control stops the cycle rather than guess.
Is it safe to open a door that stays locked?
Let the oven cool fully first, and never pry the door. Forcing it can bend the latch and make the repair larger. We can release and check it safely.
Do the four codes need different repairs?
They all point to the same latch, switch and wiring circuit. We find which one by testing, so you are not asked to guess between them.
