What F03 or F04 means
Maytag electric and gas freestanding and slide-in ranges, such as the MER8650ES, can display F03 or F04. Both point to the electronic oven control or the wiring connected to it. The control board has detected a condition inside its own circuit and stopped the oven. Owners usually see the code with an oven that will not start, a keypad that does not respond or a cycle that ends early. As with any control code, it marks where to look and does not confirm that the board has failed.
Common causes of F03 or F04
- Electronic oven control board
- Wiring harness or connector to the control
- Line voltage disturbance that upset the control
1. Turn the oven off and allow it to cool. 2. Turn the range's breaker off for one minute. 3. Turn it back on. 4. Keep watching the display for one minute to see if F03 or F04 appears again. 5. Verify oven operation with a short test bake.
- A repeat after the reset means the control or its wiring still holds the condition.
- We inspect connectors and test the control, then explain the result and quote the work in writing.
Other Range codes
Does F03 mean I need a new control board?
Not necessarily. Wiring and connectors lead to the same code. We check them first because they cost less, and we only recommend a board when testing points there.
Why might a power surge matter?
A surge can upset the electronic control and leave it holding an error. A reset sometimes clears it, but a repeating code suggests something still needs attention.
What should I tell the technician?
Tell us which code showed, whether the oven was running, and what you did to reset it. That helps us choose the right place to start.
Still seeing F03 or F04?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
