What D1:0, D1:1, EA:0 or EA:1 means

On a Maytag countertop microwave, D1:0, D1:1, EA:0 and EA:1 are not errors. They are a readout of the two-step door opening feature. The display shows whether that feature is enabled or disabled, and the feature exists to prevent unintended access to the microwave. Where children cannot reach the microwave, you can disable it. If you see one of these messages, the microwave is simply reporting a setting, and the setting steps are in the guide that came with it.

Common causes of D1:0, D1:1, EA:0 or EA:1

  • Two-step door setting was changed by pressing the setting keys
  • Setting entered by accident during keypad use
  • Feature set on or off deliberately by a previous user
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Do not treat the message as a failure. It shows the two-step door setting. 2. Open the guide that came with your microwave and follow its steps to enable or disable the two-step door feature. 3. Press STOP/UNLOCK to clear the display if the guide says so. 4. Close the door and try a short timed cook. 5. Keep the keypad free of objects.

! Why to stop there
  • These messages are settings readouts, so a repair is only needed if the keypad or door does not respond afterward.
  • We test the keypad and the door latch if the setting will not change.
  • You approve a written price first, and an older countertop microwave gets an honest opinion on repair versus replacement.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
D1:0, D1:1, EA:0 or EA:1D1:0, D1:1, EA:0 or EA:1 questions
Does D1 or EA mean my microwave is broken?

No. They show whether the two-step door opening feature is enabled or disabled. The microwave is simply reporting a setting, not a problem, and nothing needs repair.

What is the two-step door feature?

It is a feature that makes you take two steps to open the door, to avoid unintended access. You can disable it when children cannot get to the microwave.

The setting will not change. What now?

Then the keypad or the door latch may not respond. Call us and we will test them, quote the price in writing, and tell you if the repair is worthwhile.
