What d16 means
The d16 code is listed for the older Maytag commercial coin and card operated dryers in the MDE/MDG21PD and MLE/MLG23PD families, and only on PR models. It points to the power supplied at installation, and if a d9 voltage code keeps showing, to the wiring or the transformer. On the display you see d16 and the dryer may not accept money or start. These are older machines still in many laundry rooms, and we repair them and say plainly when a repair is not worth it.
Common causes of d16
- Supply voltage at the dryer's installation
- Wiring between the supply and the dryer
- Transformer on a PR model
- Whether a d9 voltage code is also appearing
1. Check that the dryer's circuit breaker is on and has not partly tripped. 2. See whether other machines on the same supply are also acting up. 3. Write down whether d9 appears along with d16. 4. Do not open any panels or touch wiring. Call us with the notes so we can test the supply.
- This code concerns the power coming to the dryer, so the problem may be in the building wiring rather than the dryer
- We measure the supply and the transformer before recommending a part
- If the supply is the cause, we tell you that plainly and do not replace dryer parts that are working
Other Commercial Laundry codes
What is a PR model?
It is a model designation the code refers to. If you are unsure whether yours is one, the model plate on the dryer tells us, and we can confirm it when we call.
Is d16 connected to d9?
The guidance links them: if d9 stays after the installation power is checked, the wiring or the transformer comes into question. Tell us if both codes have shown.
Should I keep trying the dryer?
If the supply is unstable, repeated starts do not help. Leave it off, note what you see, and we will test the supply and give you a written price before any work.
Still seeing d16?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
