What F4 E3 means
F4 E3 on a Maytag Commercial-Grade Residential dryer is the restricted airflow message. The control senses that air is not moving out as it should, which usually means the lint screen is clogged or the vent is crushed, kinked, or has too many turns. The dryer keeps running with the code on screen, but drying slows and the cabinet gets hot. Touching any key removes the code from the display and brings back the estimated time remaining.
Common causes of F4 E3
- Lint screen blocked or coated
- Exhaust hose crushed behind the dryer
- Wall duct or outside hood packed with lint
- Vent run with too many bends or too much length
1. Touch any key to clear the code and return to the time remaining. 2. Clean the lint screen thoroughly. 3. Pull the dryer forward carefully and check that the exhaust hose is not crushed or kinked. 4. Look at the outside hood and remove any lint you can reach. 5. Run a timed cycle and see whether the code comes back.
- If a clean screen and open hose do not stop the code, the restriction may be deeper in the duct
- We test airflow through the vent, not only at the dryer
- A vent that is simply too long or too bent needs a different fix than a failed part, and we explain which it is
Other Commercial Laundry codes
Is F4 E3 a failure of the dryer?
Usually it is the vent system, not the dryer. The control only reports that exhaust air is not leaving freely, and the fix is often cleaning or straightening ducting.
Why are my clothes still wet?
With airflow restricted, moist air cannot leave the drum, so loads stay damp even after a full cycle. Clearing the vent normally restores normal drying times.
Can lint buildup be a hazard?
Heavily packed vents hold heat and can be a fire risk, so do not ignore this code. Cleaning the screen and vent is the first step, and we can check airflow if it persists.
