What FAE5 or F10E5 means
FAE5, shown on some models as F10E5, is a diverter leak code on Maytag built-in dishwashers with electronic control. The dishwasher believes water is leaking around the diverter area, so it stops to protect the floor. The blink version is ten flashes, a pause, and five flashes. Because a leak is possible, the first job is to look underneath the dishwasher and confirm that every water connection is dry and secure.
Common causes of FAE5 or F10E5
- Leak at or near the diverter
- Loose water connection under the dishwasher
- Moisture detected where it should not be
- Diverter or its seal, once leaks are found or ruled out
1. Check for leaks under the dishwasher and make sure all water connections are secure. 2. Press the Cancel key twice. 3. Try to start a new cycle. 4. If the error returns, shut off the water supply and schedule service.
- Whether water is really leaking or only being sensed is what we find out first
- We check the diverter area and every connection
- After any flood, keep the dishwasher unplugged until we inspect it
Other Dishwasher codes
Is FAE5 an actual leak?
It can be. The dishwasher detects water where it should not be, so we look for a real leak before treating it as a sensing problem.
What does pressing Cancel twice do?
It clears the error so you can try a new cycle. If FAE5 comes back, the condition is still there and we need to find out why.
Is it safe to keep running the dishwasher?
We would not. If it leaks, damage to cabinets and floors can follow quickly, so turn off the water and call us before running another cycle.
