What FAE4 or F10E4 means
FAE4, shown by some models as F10E4, is a diverter valve error on Maytag built-in dishwashers with electronic control. The diverter valve directs water to the correct spray arms during a cycle, and the control reports that it is not moving or responding as expected. In blink form the F part is ten flashes, then a pause, then four flashes. Dishes may be cleaned unevenly or a cycle may stop.
Common causes of FAE4 or F10E4
- Diverter valve not responding to the control
- Connection to the diverter
- Water pressure path inside the tub
- Control, once the diverter tests good
1. If the dishwasher is hard wired, turn its breaker off at the electrical panel for 30 seconds, then turn it on. 2. If it plugs in, disconnect it for 30 seconds. 3. Run a short cycle and listen for water moving between the spray arms. 4. If the error returns, schedule service.
- A repeating error after a power reset means the diverter circuit needs testing
- We check the diverter, its connection and the control that drives it
- We watch the spray arms switch during a test cycle to see whether the diverter really moves
Other Dishwasher codes
Are FAE4 and F10E4 the same code?
Yes. Models display it differently, but the meaning is a diverter valve error. Ten flashes, a pause, and four flashes is the blink form, and the same checks apply to either display.
What does the diverter do?
It sends water to different spray arms at different times in the cycle. When it does not move, parts of the load can get less water.
Is the diverter worth replacing in an older dishwasher?
Often yes when the rest of the dishwasher is sound. We tell you plainly, before any work begins, if another problem makes the repair not worth it.
