What F8E2 means

F8E2 on Maytag built-in dishwashers with electronic control is described as a fill valve electric error. The fill valve opens to let water into the tub, and the control is reporting an electrical problem with how that valve is being driven or how it responds. The blink pattern is eight flashes, a pause, and two flashes. The dishwasher may not fill, or it may stop with the cycle unfinished.

Common causes of F8E2

  • Fill valve coil or its electrical connection
  • Connection at the valve
  • Control output to the valve
  • Inlet connection, checked for leaks at the same time
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Remove the drip tray and look at the inlet valve connection to make sure nothing is leaking. 2. Cycle power: with a hard-wired dishwasher, switch the breaker off for 30 seconds, otherwise unplug it for 30 seconds. 3. Restore power and run a short cycle. 4. If the error returns, schedule service.

! Why to stop there
  • A repeating F8E2 points us to the valve and its drive circuit
  • We test the valve electrically and check for leaks while we are there
  • We test the valve coil and the control output separately, then give you the price in writing
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F8E2F8E2 questions
How is F8E2 different from F8E1?

F8E1 says no water is detected. F8E2 reports an electrical problem with the fill valve itself, so we test the valve circuit instead of the supply.

Why look for leaks?

The valve sits at the inlet, and a leak there can confuse the picture. Checking under the drip tray rules out water damage first, and then we test the valve itself and the control that drives it.

Does F8E2 need a new valve?

Only if the valve tests bad. We check the wiring and the control output as well, and quote the repair in writing before we start.
