What F1-7, F1-9 or F1-E means

F1-7, F1-9 and F1-E are display codes on Maytag electric and gas freestanding and slide-in ranges, including the MER7662WS0. All three point to the oven control or its associated wiring. The control has detected a circuit condition it cannot resolve. Owners see the code and may notice the oven will not heat, a bake stops or the display freezes. The letters and numbers after the F1 tell a technician which internal check was involved, and they all lead to the control area.

Common causes of F1-7, F1-9 or F1-E

  • Oven control board
  • Wiring harness or connector at the control
  • Power supply interruption to the range
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the oven off and wait for it to cool. 2. Switch the circuit breaker for the range off for one minute. 3. Switch it back on. 4. Watch for one minute to see if the code appears again. 5. Verify oven operation with a short bake before you plan a meal.

! Why to stop there
  • If the code repeats, the control or wiring still holds the condition and only testing will show which one.
  • We look at connectors first and measure the control output, then give you the finding and a written price.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F1-7, F1-9 or F1-EF1-7, F1-9 or F1-E questions
What is the E in F1-E?

It is simply part of the code the control displays, and in this family it points to the same control and wiring area as F1-7 and F1-9. A technician reads the character as a clue about which internal check was involved.

Should I keep trying the reset?

Once or twice is fine, with a full minute off each time. If the code returns after every reset, more resets will not help and the control and its wiring need testing by someone with the right tools.

How old can the range be for you to repair it?

Many of the ranges we see are five to twenty years old and well past any warranty. We repair them, and we say plainly when the cost of a repair does not make sense for your kitchen.
