What F1-A or F1-C means
When F1-A or F1-C appears on a Maytag electric or gas freestanding or slide-in range, such as the MGR6751BDW, the control suspects the oven door latch, the door lock switch or the wiring between them. It cannot confirm that the door is where it should be, locked or unlocked. The owner sees the code, and the oven may not start a bake or self-clean, or the door may stay locked after a cycle.
Common causes of F1-A or F1-C
- Door latch mechanism not reaching its locked or unlocked position
- Door lock switch
- Latch wiring or connector
- Door alignment
1. Let the oven cool fully. 2. Close the door gently and make sure nothing sits in the way of the latch. 3. Switch the breaker for the range off for one minute, then on. 4. Monitor the oven for one minute to confirm the code stays away. 5. Verify oven operation. Leave a stuck door alone.
- The code stops short of naming whether the latch, switch or wiring is the issue.
- We cycle the latch and test the switch, then tell you the result and quote the repair in writing.
Other Range codes
Is F1-A different from F1-C?
Both belong to the door latch and lock switch circuit. The final letter records which check the control made when it flagged the problem, and we use that detail as a starting clue when we test.
My door will not open. What now?
Let the oven cool completely and do not force the door, since pulling can bend the latch. If it stays locked after cooling, we release it and test the latch without damaging the door or the frame.
Can I run the oven with the door locked?
Only when the code is gone and the oven behaves normally through a full short bake. If the lock signal is unreliable, the control may stop a cycle at any point, including in the middle of a meal.
