What Locked, Lock or Loc means
Locked, Lock or Loc on the display of a Maytag electric or gas freestanding or slide-in range, such as the MER7765WS0, means the oven's lock feature is on. It shuts down the control pads and locks the oven door to prevent unintended use. The feature comes unlocked from the factory, so someone chose to turn it on. It cannot be set while the oven is running. You see the word on the display and the keypad and door do not respond.
Common causes of Locked, Lock or Loc
- Lock feature switched on on purpose
- Long press on Start/Enter that turned it on by accident
- Control that does not release the lock
1. Make sure the oven and timer are off. 2. Touch and hold START/ENTER for 5 seconds. 3. Listen for a single tone, which tells you the lock status changed. 4. Try the door and the keypad. 5. If nothing changes, switch the range's breaker off for one minute and try again.
- If the display still says Locked after the steps, the control or the door latch circuit needs testing.
- We check the latch and control before suggesting parts.
- A written price is agreed before work.

Why is my oven door stuck shut?
With the lock feature on, the door is locked along with the control. Hold Start/Enter for five seconds and the lock should release. Never force the door.
Can I lock the oven while it is baking?
No. The controls and door cannot be locked while the oven is in use, so the lock is turned on only when the oven and timer are off.
What if it stays locked after I try?
Do not pry the door or force the handle. A control or latch problem may be behind it, and we can test both safely on a visit and tell you the price in writing first.
Still unsure about Locked, Lock or Loc?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
