What H2O Light means
The H2O light on a Maytag side-by-side refrigerator, such as the MSB26C6MDM, or a French-door bottom-freezer model, such as the MFX2570AEM, is the water filter status light. On side-by-side models it turns red when it is time to change the filter, or you may notice weaker water flow or slower ice. The guidance for the French-door models is to replace the filter every six months or sooner, depending on use and water quality. A clogged or poorly installed filter can restrict flow.
Common causes of H2O Light
- Filter that is due for replacement
- Filter that is clogged or not fully seated
- Status not reset after a new filter
1. Replace the water filter with a new one made for your model. 2. Make sure the new filter is installed correctly and turned fully into place. 3. Reset the filter status as your owner's manual describes for your model. 4. Run water through the dispenser for a short while. 5. Check that the light turns off and the water flows normally.
- Weak water flow after a new filter points beyond the filter, to the supply line, valve or dispenser, and we test those.
- We check the filter housing for leaks and seating.
- You get a written price before any work.

How often should I change the water filter?
Plan on about every six months, or sooner if the light comes on, the water slows or the ice maker produces less. Heavy use and hard water shorten the interval.
Why is the light still on with a new filter?
The status must be reset by hand after the change. The steps differ by model, so use the owner's manual for yours, and hold any button for the full time it states.
Can an old filter slow the ice maker?
Yes. A clogged filter restricts water, which can reduce dispenser flow and ice production. Replace the filter first, and if flow stays poor we check the supply.
