What F0E3 means
F0E3 has two readings. On Maytag top-load HE washers, from the older Bravos era through models such as the MVW6230HW, it means overload: the load is too heavy and the washer runs its overload recovery cycle. On Maytag front-load HE washers (MHW models such as the MHW5630HW), the manufacturer states no cause and gives only a power reset. In both cases you see the code during or after a wash, and clothes may come out wetter than usual.
Common causes of F0E3
- A load packed too tightly or too heavy for the drum (top-loaders)
- An unbalanced load that cuts the spin speed
- A control stop that only a power reset clears (front-loaders)
1. On a top-loader, let the overload recovery cycle run. 2. Take out some of the load and place the rest in loose heaps evenly around the basket wall. 3. On a front-loader, disconnect power for 5 minutes, then restore it. 4. Run the cycle again with a smaller, balanced load.
- A washer that shows overload with a small load needs its sensing checked
- On the front-loader, no cause is stated, so a repeat means we watch the machine run
- If it is an older Bravos, we tell you plainly when a repair is not worth it

What does F0E3 mean?
On a top-load Maytag it means the load is too heavy and an overload recovery cycle is running. On a front-loader the manufacturer gives no meaning and only says to reset the power.
How should I load a top-loader?
Place garments in loose heaps evenly around the basket wall, not packed tight. A large unbalanced load can lower the spin speed and leave clothes wet at the end.
What if it still happens with a small load?
Then something besides the load is involved. We test it, give you a written price before work, and our repairs carry a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Still unsure about F0E3?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
