On Maytag top-load HE washers with electronic control, such as the MVW6230HW and MVWB765FW, LdU or dU means the lid cannot unlock. The washer senses objects resting on the lid that prevent the lock from releasing, such as a basket of laundry set on top. It is one of the easiest top-load messages to clear, because the cause is usually sitting right on the lid. The cycle finishes, but the lid stays shut until the weight is removed.

Common causes of LdU or dU

  • A laundry basket, detergent bottle or other object on the lid
  • A lid that is bearing weight and binding on its lock
  • The lid lock assembly, if the lid is clear and still will not release
