What LoC or LC means
LoC or LC, depending on the model, is not an error. On Maytag front-load HE washers, the MHW5630HW and MHW3505FW among them, it means the Control Lock is switched on. While the lock is active the control will not respond, and if you press a button the display shows LoC or LC as a reminder that you set the lock and need to turn it off before the washer controls work again.
Common causes of LoC or LC
- Control Lock turned on earlier, on purpose or by accident
- A child or pet pressing the Control Lock button
- The keypad, only if the lock cannot be turned off
1. Touch and hold the Control Lock button to turn the lock off. 2. Check that the display no longer shows LoC or LC. 3. Choose your cycle again. 4. If the lock will not release, unplug the washer for 5 minutes and try once more.
- A lock that will not switch off points to the keypad or control
- We test the keypad before looking at anything else
- The price is written down first, and we say plainly if an older MHW is not worth fixing
Other Washer codes
Is LoC a real problem?
No, it is not an error. It is a reminder that Control Lock is active, so the buttons will not work until you deactivate it.
Is LC the same as LoC?
Yes. Which one you see depends on your model, but both mean the control lock is on and the controls are ignoring your presses until the lock is deactivated.
What if I cannot switch it off?
Then the keypad may need testing, because a stuck lock is no longer a user setting. We give a written price before work, and our repairs carry a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Still unsure about LoC or LC?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
