Is a 12-Year-Old Maytag Washer Worth Repairing?

A washer that is a decade old can still be a good repair, or a poor one. Here are the questions that decide it, and the signs that point toward replacing.

Age alone does not decide it. A Maytag washer in its second decade is worth repairing when the job is a single wear part and the tub, frame and bearings are sound. It is not worth repairing when the money would go into a machine that is wearing out in several places at once. Here is how we sort the two.

Repairs That Usually Make Sense

  • A drain pump, lid switch, water inlet valve or drive belt on a machine that otherwise runs quietly.
  • A control board or lock assembly where the cabinet is clean and free of rust.
  • A leak traced to a hose or clamp rather than the tub.

Signs That Point Toward Replacing

  • A loud rumble or grinding from the drum while it spins, which often means worn bearings or a failed tub seal.
  • Rust around the base or lower cabinet where water has been escaping for years.
  • A second major repair soon after the first.
  • Parts that are no longer made for your exact model.

What We Can and Cannot Tell From the Outside

A sound or a leak does not name the failed part by itself. We open the machine, find the source, and tell you whether it is a small repair or the start of a larger one. If replacement is the better choice we say so, and you decide with a written price in hand.

Your Own Quick Check

Run the empty washer on a short cycle and listen. Smooth humming is a good sign. Knocking, scraping or a drum that wobbles when you push it by hand deserves a closer look before you spend anything.

Maytag washer repair covers machines of every age. Tell us the model and what you see, and we will say honestly whether repair or replacement fits. Arrival windows run three hours, and the service area page shows where we work.

Tell us the model and the code. We will bring the part.
