YMET8885X
Maytag YMET8885X Electric Range Repair
Most common issues on this model
- Burner that heats unevenly around its ring
- Oven that bakes fine but broils poorly
- Control that beeps without starting the oven
- Cord strain relief that has worked loose
YMET8885X is the number for a Maytag electric range, and it is also found with the endings YMET8885XB, YMET8885XS and YMET8885XW. Each of those lists as a different finish or revision, so the last letter is worth noting.
An oven that bakes but broils poorly separates the two heating paths for us: the lower coil works and the upper one does not, so we test the broil coil and its wiring without touching the bake side. A control that beeps and does not start often needs a look at the probe circuit. A cord strain relief that has worked loose can pull on the terminals, so we secure it.
For a burner heating unevenly around its ring, we measure the element for a break and the socket for carbon. We read the full tag before ordering. Written estimate first; thirty days of coverage on the finished job.

My YMET8885X bakes well but does not broil. Why?
The two coils are separate. If baking works, the lower coil and its supply are fine, and the upper broil coil or its wiring has failed. We test only that path and replace the failed part.
The control beeps but the oven never starts. What do you check?
We check power to the control and the probe circuit, since an open probe can stop the oven from starting. If those are fine, we test the relay that feeds the coils.
Why does a loose cord strain relief matter?
It lets the cord pull on the terminals every time the range moves, which loosens the connection and can overheat it. We secure the cord and inspect the terminals.
