What dET means

A Maytag front-load HE washer, such as the MHW5630HW or MHW6630HC, shows dET when the control cannot detect the detergent dispenser cartridge. If the cartridge sits properly in its place and the drawer closes fully, the washer is satisfied. If you pour single-load doses of detergent instead of using the cartridge, you can ignore the message. The washer is not reporting a mechanical problem, and the cycle itself usually runs.

Common causes of dET

  • Dispenser cartridge not inserted correctly
  • Drawer not closed all the way
  • Single-dose detergent used instead of the cartridge
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Pull the dispenser drawer open. 2. Make sure the cartridge is inserted correctly and seated. 3. Push the drawer closed all the way until it stops. 4. Start the cycle and see whether dET is gone. 5. If you use single-load detergent doses, you may ignore the message. See your owner's manual for the Optimal Dispense cartridge.

! Why to stop there
  • If dET stays with the cartridge seated and the drawer shut, the sensing circuit or the dispenser may need testing.
  • We check the drawer fit before suggesting any part.
  • The price is written first.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
dETdET questions
Do I have to fix dET?

Not if you use single-load detergent doses, since the message can be ignored. If you rely on the cartridge, reseat it and close the drawer fully.

Will the washer still run?

Usually yes. The code concerns the cartridge detection, not the water supply or the motor, so the cycle commonly continues. Check that detergent still reaches the load.

What if dET persists after reseating?

Then the detection circuit or the drawer assembly may be at issue. We can inspect them and quote any repair in writing before we start.
