What F3E2 means
On Maytag top-load HE washers with an electronic control, from the Bravos era through models such as the MVW7232HC, F3E2 can mean the hot and cold inlet hoses are installed the wrong way round: the cold hose is on the hot inlet and the hot hose is on the cold inlet. On Maytag front-load HE washers (MHW models such as the MHW5630HW), no cause is stated, and only a 5-minute power reset is given. The cycle stops during fill.
Common causes of F3E2
- Hoses swapped at the washer inlets (top-loaders)
- Faucets not fully open, or a hose not connected
- A momentary stop that the reset clears (front-loaders)
1. Check that the hot hose goes to the hot inlet and the cold hose to the cold inlet. 2. Make sure both faucets are fully open and both hoses are connected. 3. Unplug the washer for 5 minutes, then restore power. 4. Start the cycle again.
- If the hoses are right and the code stays, the temperature sensing or inlet valves need a test
- A faucet labeled backwards at the wall can mislead an owner, so we check what actually flows
- No one is pushed into a repair on an older Bravos that is not worth the money

What does F3E2 mean on a Maytag top-loader?
It can indicate that the hot and cold inlet hoses are swapped. Cold water arriving at the hot inlet, or the other way round, makes the washer stop the cycle.
How do I tell which hose is which?
Match the hot faucet to the hot inlet on the washer and the cold faucet to the cold inlet. Both faucets must be fully open and both hoses connected before the washer will fill.
What if the hoses are right?
Then we test the inlet valves and the temperature sensing with the washer filling, to see where the water is actually going. We give a written price before work, and we back repairs with a 30-day warranty.

A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
