What F8 E1 or LF or Lo FL means
These labels belong to one condition on Maytag HE washers: the control is not detecting the correct amount of incoming water. On front-loaders such as the MHW5630HW or MHW6630HC it can read F8 E1 or Lo FL. On top-load HE washers such as the MVW6230HW it reads F8 E1 or LF, meaning long fill, because the washer is taking too long to fill. When this happens the door may stay locked and the control may seem unresponsive. The cycle stops with too little water in the tub.
Common causes of F8 E1 or LF or Lo FL
- The water supply: closed or partly closed taps, kinked or crushed inlet hoses
- Clogged screens where the hoses meet the inlet valves
- On top-loaders, a drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe
- The water level sensing circuit and inlet valves, once the supply checks out
1. Press the power button. The washer starts a drain routine that takes roughly 8 to 10 minutes, with the pump running the whole time. 2. Confirm both water taps are fully open. 3. Look for kinked inlet hoses. 4. On a top-loader, check that the drain hose does not reach more than 4.5 inches into the standpipe. 5. Start the cycle again once the drain routine ends.
- If the taps, hoses and drain setup are right and the code returns, the sensing or valve circuit has to be tested
- A locked door with an unresponsive control needs the washer powered down and checked properly

Other Washer codes
Are F8 E1, LF and Lo FL the same code?
They describe the same trouble of not detecting the right amount of incoming water. Lo FL is the front-load label, LF the top-load long-fill label, and F8 E1 appears on both.
Why is my door locked and the buttons dead?
With this code the door may stay locked and the control may not respond. Pressing power starts a drain routine of about 8 to 10 minutes. Let it finish first.
Could my drain hose cause a fill code?
On top-loaders, yes. A drain hose that extends more than 4.5 inches into the standpipe is named as a possible reason, so check its installation.
