What Lid Lock flashing / not on / solid red means
On Maytag Commercial-Grade Residential washers, the Lid Lock light tells you whether the lid is secured. A flashing light usually means the washer is waiting for you: press and hold the Start button for up to 3 seconds to engage the cycle, and make sure the lid is completely closed and latched. The washer will not run until the lid is latched. If the Spin or Wash light is also blinking, or an LF or F8 E1 code shows, the washer is also reporting a fill-time problem.
Common causes of Lid Lock flashing / not on / solid red
- Start button not held long enough
- Lid not fully closed or latched
- Lid latch or lock mechanism not engaging
- Fill-related code showing at the same time
1. Close the lid completely and press it down until it latches. 2. Press and hold the Start button for up to 3 seconds. 3. Check that nothing, such as a sleeve, is caught under the lid edge. 4. Look at the display for an LF or F8 E1 code, or a blinking Spin or Wash light. 5. If the light keeps flashing, call us.
- If a firm latch and a long press do not help, the lid lock or its switch may not be sensing the lid
- We separate a lock problem from a water-fill problem, because the lights can look alike
- Any repair is quoted in writing before we begin, and the work carries a 30-day workmanship warranty

Why does the Lid Lock light flash?
It is asking you to latch the lid or to press and hold Start. For many owners that is the whole fix, so try both before looking for a part.
What if the Lid Lock light stays off?
An unlit lid lock light can mean the washer is not sensing the lid at all. Close it firmly and try again, and if the light stays off, the lock circuit needs a test.
What do LF and F8 E1 have to do with it?
They are fill-time messages that can appear with a blinking Spin or Wash light. If you see them, check the water supply as well as the lid.
