What PF means
A PF code on a Maytag Commercial-Grade Residential dryer means the drying cycle was interrupted by a power failure. The dryer stops when power is lost and shows PF when it comes back. To go on, touch and hold START to restart the cycle, or press POWER to clear the display. The control can also show PF after a power outage with unusual line noise, when it reads the voltage as incorrect, so a short flicker at the outlet is enough to cause it.
Common causes of PF
- Real outage or short power dip during the cycle
- Line noise at restoration that the control misread
- Loose plug or terminal connection at the dryer
- Weak or tripping breaker
1. Touch and hold START to restart the cycle, or press POWER to clear the display. 2. Check whether the dryer's breaker tripped or any household fuse blew. 3. Make sure the power cord or terminal connection is secure. 4. Run a timed cycle to confirm the dryer finishes normally.
- If PF appears with no outage, the supply or a connection may be dropping out
- We look for a breaker that is weak or a loose terminal at the dryer
- Repeated PF codes after normal power are worth a test, since the same condition can strain the control over time
Other Commercial Laundry codes
Did the dryer break when PF showed?
Usually not. PF is the dryer telling you that power was interrupted. Restart the cycle with START or clear it with POWER and see whether the dryer finishes.
Why do I get PF without a blackout?
A brief dip or noise on the line can be enough for the control to treat it as an outage. If it happens often, the supply or a connection needs testing.
Does my laundry need rewashing?
Clothes left partly dry can simply be run again on a timed cycle. If the dryer stopped while hot, give it a few minutes to cool before restarting.
Still unsure about PF?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
