What Temperature Alarm means
The Temperature Alarm on a Maytag side-by-side refrigerator, such as the MSB26C6MDM, or a French-door bottom-freezer model, such as the MFX2570AEM, is the over-temperature warning. It tells you the refrigerator rose above 48 degrees F (9 C) or the freezer rose above 15 degrees F (minus 9 C) for more than about an hour and a half. The sound shuts off by itself once temperatures return to normal, but the indicator keeps flashing until you press Alarm to acknowledge it.
Common causes of Temperature Alarm
- Door left open or not sealing
- Heavy loading of warm food
- Power interruption
- Cooling system not keeping up
1. Press Alarm to acknowledge the warning once temperatures recover. 2. Check that every door and drawer is closed and sealing. 3. Make sure vents inside are not blocked by food. 4. Confirm cooling is turned on in the control. 5. Watch the temperatures over the next few hours and check the food.
- If the alarm returns without an obvious cause, the cooling system, fans, defrost or sensors need testing.
- We check airflow and the door seal before any part is ordered.
- You approve a written price first.
Other Refrigerator codes
Why does the light keep flashing after the sound stops?
The sound ends by itself when temperatures normalize, but the light stays on until you press Alarm. It is a record that an over-temperature event happened.
What temperatures set it off?
The refrigerator above 48 degrees F or the freezer above 15 degrees F for more than about 1.5 hours. A brief rise from a door opening does not usually trigger it.
Is my food safe?
That depends on how warm and how long. Check the freezer for hard food and the refrigerator for cold food, and throw away anything that seems spoiled.
