What F2 means
An F2 on a Maytag over-the-range microwave and hood combination means the keypad, also called the user interface, reported a problem to the control board. There may be a problem with the keypad itself or with its wiring. You will see F2 in the display, and the buttons may stop responding or the microwave may not start. This is a common control message on older hood microwaves, and we repair them.
Common causes of F2
- Keypad or user interface sending an unreliable signal
- Wiring or ribbon connection between the keypad and the control board
- Control board input for the keypad
1. Switch off the microwave breaker and leave it off for one full minute. 2. Switch it on again. 3. Keep an eye on the display for one minute to see whether F2 comes back. 4. Check that the microwave heats a cup of water. 5. Wipe the keypad with a dry cloth.
- F2 can come from the keypad, its wiring or the control, and the display does not name which.
- We test the keypad response and the connections before we suggest a part.
- You approve a written price first, and an older microwave gets an honest repair-or-replace opinion.
Other Microwave codes
What does F2 mean on this microwave?
It means the keypad reported a problem to the control board. The keypad, its wiring or the board may be responsible, and we test to find out which.
Are F2, E03 and F2E1 related?
They are close relatives. E03, F2 and F2E1 all involve the keypad or user interface and its wiring, and all three begin with the same one-minute breaker reset. The testing we do is similar too.
Can I use the microwave with F2?
If a reset clears the code and the keys respond, yes. If F2 returns, the keypad needs a check, and we will quote the price first.
Still seeing F2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
