What F3T3 means
This code shows on Maytag over-the-range microwave and hood combinations when the control has trouble with the hood temperature thermistor or its wiring. That sensor watches the heat in the hood section above the cooktop, so the control relies on it. When the reading is missing or out of range, F3T3 appears and some functions may be held back. Older hood microwaves that have seen years of cooking steam are the ones we see this on most.
Common causes of F3T3
- The hood temperature thermistor
- Connector and wiring on the sensor lead
- Control board response to the sensor signal
- Heat or steam exposure in the hood area
1. Let the microwave cool for a few minutes if you were just cooking on the range below. 2. Turn the circuit breaker off for one minute, then on. 3. Look at the display for a minute to see if F3T3 returns. 4. Check that the hood vent openings are clear of grease buildup and that nothing blocks them.
- A code reset does not tell us whether the sensor, its lead or the control is responsible
- We measure the sensor circuit before suggesting a part
- Cooking heat from below can complicate the picture, so we check how the unit is installed and vented
Other Microwave codes
Does F3T3 mean my stove is too hot underneath?
Not by itself. The code points to the hood temperature sensor or its wiring. Heavy cooking can raise the reading, but a sensor that reports nothing useful triggers the same code, so we test the sensor.
Can I keep cooking on the range while F3T3 shows?
The range below is a separate appliance, so it works as usual. Keep an eye on the hood area and avoid long high-heat sessions until we have checked the microwave.
Do you work on older Maytag hood microwaves?
Yes, units that are well past warranty are a regular part of our work. We tell you the price in writing first and say plainly if the repair is not worth it.
Still seeing F3T3?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
