What FH means
FH on a Maytag front-load HE washer, such as the MHW5630HW or MHW3505FW, is a water inlet message. It tells you the washer is getting no water, or not enough, from the supply. The control cannot reach the fill level it expects, so the cycle stops and the tub stays short of water. You will usually notice a quiet washer with damp clothes at the bottom of the drum. The first checks cost nothing and sit outside the cabinet, at the taps and hoses.
Common causes of FH
- Hot or cold tap not fully open
- Clogged screens where the inlet hoses connect to the washer
- Kinked or flattened inlet hoses
- The inlet valves or level sensing, once the supply checks out
1. Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to cancel the cycle. 2. Unplug the washer or disconnect power. 3. Make sure both the hot and cold taps are completely open. 4. Look for kinks in the inlet hoses. 5. Ask whether the screens at the hose connections are clogged; if you turn the water off and unscrew a hose, expect debris in them. 6. Restore power and restart.
- Open taps, straight hoses and clean screens with FH still showing point to the valves or the sensing circuit
- We measure whether water actually reaches the washer before we blame a part
- You get the price in writing first, and we say plainly if an older MHW is not worth the repair
Other Washer codes
What does FH mean on my Maytag washer?
FH is the water inlet message for these front-loaders. The washer is getting no water or too little, so it stops until the supply problem is cleared.
Can I fix FH myself?
Often the cause is outside the washer. Open both taps fully, straighten the inlet hoses and clear the inlet screens, then restart. If FH returns, call us.
Why do you want to see the taps?
A low or shut tap looks identical to a failed valve from the code alone. We check supply first, quote in writing, and back our work with a 30-day warranty.
Still seeing FH?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
