What Ld means

Ld is the long-drain message on Maytag top-load HE washers. On models with electronic control, the Bravos X and Bravos XL era through current MVW washers such as the MVW6230HW, it means the washer is taking too long to drain, and the drain hose may extend more than 4.5 inches into the standpipe. The older Bravos MVWB series, such as the MVWB765FW, shows Ld for the same slow drain and asks you to check the hose for kinks or a clog. Bravos is an older platform still in many homes; we repair it, and we are honest when it is not worth it.

Common causes of Ld

A drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe
A kinked or clogged drain hose
A drain hose end that is not secured or is taped over
The drain pump and its circuit, once the plumbing checks out

1. Press PAUSE/CANCEL to clear the display. 2. Pull the drain hose back so it does not go more than 4.5 inches into the standpipe. 3. Check that the drain hose is not kinked or crushed behind the washer. 4. Use the drain hose form and attach it securely to the drainpipe or tub; do not tape over the opening. 5. Run a drain and spin cycle.

It is taking too long to drain. The first checks are outside the washer: how far the drain hose goes into the standpipe, and whether it is kinked or clogged.

Why does the hose length matter?

A hose that extends more than 4.5 inches into the standpipe can slow the drain, so the washer reports long drain. Pull it back to the proper depth.
