What Lid Light Flashing means

A flashing Lid light on a Maytag top-load HE washer with electronic control, such as the MVW7232HC, asks one thing: is the lid closed? An older washer may have filled and washed with the lid up, but on these the lid must be closed for the machine to fill, wash, drain, rinse and spin. Some models will fill with the lid open yet will not advance until it is shut. If the lid stays open, the washer drains after 10 minutes.
