What Lights Flashing means
When several lights flash, or the Spin light flashes, on a Maytag top-load HE washer with electronic control such as the MVWC565FW, the washer is reporting an out-of-balance load: clothes are not evenly distributed in the basket when spinning begins. An off-balance load makes the basket move, which brings noise, vibration, a lower spin speed and longer cycles, and it is hard on the washer over time.
Common causes of Lights Flashing
- Heavy items bunched on one side of the basket
- A single bulky item such as a rug or comforter
- A load that is too large to spread evenly
1. Press the power button to stop the washer. 2. When the lid unlocks, open it and level the clothes out around the basket. 3. Remove one or two pieces if the load is heavy or bulky. 4. Shut the lid and restart the spin or the cycle. 5. Next time, wash large, heavy items in smaller batches.
- Repeated flashing with an evenly spread, small load points past the load itself
- We check the basket movement, the suspension and the spin circuit on the washer
- You get a written price first, and we say plainly when an older washer is not worth the repair
Other Washer codes
Why are all the lights flashing on my washer?
The washer is out of balance. The load is not evenly distributed when spinning begins, so the control stops the spin and asks for the clothes to be spread out.
Why does an unbalanced load matter?
It makes the basket move, causing noise, vibration, a reduced spin speed and longer cycles. It also wears on the washer, so redistribute the load.
What if it keeps flashing with a small load?
Then the load is probably not the cause and the washer needs testing, including the basket suspension. We give a written price first, with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
