What F3 E0, F3 E1, F3 E2 or F3 E3 means
These four codes come from Maytag built-in wall ovens, the MEW family that includes the MEW9527FZ and MEW5630. Each one points at the temperature-sensing circuit of a particular oven cavity. F3 E0 refers to the upper oven sensor and F3 E1 to the lower oven sensor on a double oven. F3 E2 and F3 E3 refer to the oven temperature sensor in general. In every case the trouble could sit in the sensor, in the control that reads it, or in the wiring between them. You will see the code in the display, and the oven may stop heating or end the cycle.
Common causes of F3 E0, F3 E1, F3 E2 or F3 E3
- Which cavity the code names, upper or lower, so we start at the right sensor
- The oven temperature sensor and its connector
- Wiring between the sensor and the control
- The control reading the sensor
1. At the panel, flip the oven's breaker off and count to sixty. 2. Flip it on again. 3. Keep an eye on the display for a full minute, looking for the same F3 code. 4. If it stays quiet, bake a simple dish and make sure the oven climbs to normal heat.
- A reset can hide a sensor that is drifting, so the code may return the next time you bake
- The code does not say whether the sensor, the wiring or the control is at issue, and we test them in that order

Other Wall Oven codes
Does F3 E0 mean the lower oven is also bad?
No. F3 E0 names the upper oven sensor, and F3 E1 names the lower one. On a double oven we check the cavity the code points to first, then confirm the other cavity heats properly before we leave.
Can I keep baking with an F3 code on the display?
Once the reset is done and the code stays gone, gentle use is fine as long as the oven heats normally. If it returns, stop using that cavity, because the control is not reading its temperature reliably.
My wall oven is an older Maytag. Is it worth fixing?
Plenty of these ovens have outlived their warranty by years and still turn out dinner around Houston. A sensor circuit is usually a modest repair compared with a new built-in. We say plainly if the numbers do not make sense.
