What F9 or F9 E0 means
F9 and F9 E0 on a Maytag built-in wall oven most often mean the oven is wired incorrectly at the home's electrical supply or at the hard-wire connection. The manufacturer's example is the L2 and neutral conductors being swapped. The code can show on a brand-new installation, after a move or remodel, or after a power outage when the supply came back in an unexpected way. The control sees a supply that does not match what it expects and displays the code instead of running the oven normally.
Common causes of F9 or F9 E0
- Terminals wired to the wrong conductors at the hard-wire connection
- L2 and neutral swapped at the supply
- Supply problems after a power outage
1. Do not keep trying to start the oven if the code appears right after installation. 2. Turn off the circuit breaker for the oven. 3. Have a qualified electrician check that every terminal is wired correctly and that L2 and neutral are not swapped. 4. Do not open the oven or the junction area yourself.
- Wiring at the supply is work for an electrician, and we will say so rather than guess
- If the supply is correct, we test the oven's control and its connections
- We put the price in writing before our own work starts, and the repair has a 30-day workmanship warranty
Other Wall Oven codes
Why would a new oven show F9?
The most common reason is a wiring mistake at installation, such as L2 and neutral swapped. The oven is reacting to a supply it cannot accept. Turn off the breaker and have the connection checked.
Can I reset it with the breaker?
Resetting will not fix wiring. If the code appeared after a power outage, a reset may help, but if the supply was wired wrong, the code will return. Do not run the oven repeatedly.
Is it safe to use?
Do not use the oven while F9 shows. The control expects a correct supply. Turn off the breaker, and call a qualified electrician first. We can then check the oven itself.
