What F3 E5, F3 E6, F3 E7, F3 E8, F3 E9 means

The F3 E5, F3 E6, F3 E7, F3 E8 and F3 E9 codes belong to Maytag built-in wall ovens. All five point to the lower oven temperature sensor, the control that reads it, or the wiring connecting the two. The control can no longer trust the lower cavity temperature, so it reports a code rather than keep heating blindly. You will see one of the five codes on the display. On a double oven the lower cavity is the one affected, and the upper oven may still behave normally.

Common causes of F3 E5, F3 E6, F3 E7, F3 E8, F3 E9

  • The lower oven temperature sensor
  • Connector and wiring at the lower cavity
  • The control that reads the sensor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch off the oven's circuit breaker and keep it off for a full minute. 2. Switch it back on. 3. Leave the display alone for one minute and watch for the same code. 4. If it stays clear, try a short bake in the lower cavity and see that it heats as normal.

! Why to stop there
  • The five codes share one meaning, so the number alone does not tell us which part needs work
  • We measure the sensor circuit before suggesting any part
  • Our quote is written and agreed before work starts, and the repair has a 30-day workmanship warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F3 E5, F3 E6, F3 E7, F3 E8, F3 E9F3 E5, F3 E6, F3 E7, F3 E8, F3 E9 questions
Do all five codes mean the same thing?

The manufacturer groups them under one description, the lower oven temperature sensor circuit. The last digit may separate how the control saw the problem, but the area we inspect is the same.

Will the upper oven still work?

Often it will, because each cavity has its own sensor. Bake something small to find out. If the upper oven also acts oddly, tell us, since that points toward the control instead of the lower sensor.

How old is too old to repair this?

Age alone is not the test. Many of these built-in ovens are years past warranty and still serve well. We look at the sensor circuit and tell you honestly whether the repair makes sense.
