What Continuous Beeping means

Continuous beeping from a Maytag electric, smoothtop or induction cooktop usually means something is pressing on the user interface. Food, liquid, other residue, or an object resting on the touchpad can register as a key held down, and the control sounds the alert without stopping. The cooktop may also ignore your commands while it beeps. The first step is to remove whatever is on the control area and clean it. If the beeping goes on after that, the brand's instruction is a one-minute power reset.

Common causes of Continuous Beeping

  • Object or pan handle resting on the control area
  • Spilled liquid or food residue across the keys
  • Touchpad registering a stuck key
  • Control left in an alert state until power is cycled
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch off all surface controls. 2. Move anything resting on the control area, such as a pan handle or a cloth. 3. Clean the touchpad and dry it fully. 4. If the beeping continues, cut the cooktop's power at the breaker(s) for one minute, then restore it. 5. Give it a minute to see whether the beeping stays away.

! Why to stop there
  • Continuous beeping on a clean, clear panel suggests the touchpad is reading a false key
  • We test the touchpad apart from the power board
  • You approve a written price before any part is replaced
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
Continuous BeepingContinuous Beeping questions
How do I stop the beeping right now?

Turn off all surface controls, take everything off the panel, and wipe it dry. If it keeps going, switch off the breaker for one minute and turn it back on.

Can a damp cloth leave moisture that triggers it?

Yes. A panel that is still wet can behave like a pressed key. Dry it with a soft cloth and wait a minute before trying the cooktop.

Is it a safety concern?

Not by itself, but a cooktop that keeps beeping may also be reading keys it should not. If it will not settle after a clean and a reset, leave it off and call us.
