What F4 E7 means
F4 E7 shows on Maytag built-in wall ovens with a microwave when there may be trouble with the microwave meat probe, the receptacle it plugs into, or the wiring behind it. A common cause is simply a probe that is not seated. Note that the microwave uses its own probe, and the probe made for the oven cavity is not interchangeable with it because the two have different resistance values. Using the wrong one can trigger this code. The control then reports the problem on the display.
Common causes of F4 E7
- Microwave meat probe not fully seated
- The wrong probe, the oven one, used in the microwave
- The probe receptacle and wiring behind it
1. Check that the microwave meat probe is pushed all the way into the microwave probe receptacle. 2. Do not use the oven's meat probe in the microwave. 3. Turn off the circuit breaker for the oven for one minute and turn it back on. 4. Wait a minute to see if the code returns, then try a short microwave cycle.
- If F4 E7 returns with the correct probe seated, the receptacle or its wiring is the next suspect
- A probe with a damaged cord can mimic a bad receptacle, so we test both
- We put the price in writing before work, and we give a 30-day workmanship warranty
Other Wall Oven codes
Can I use the probe from the regular oven in the microwave?
No. The two probes have different resistance values, so the control reads the wrong one as a problem. Use only the probe made for the microwave section.
What if I was not using any probe?
Then the receptacle or its wiring may be sending a false signal. Run the breaker reset once, and if F4 E7 comes back with no probe in the oven, we test that circuit.
Is F4 E7 serious?
It is usually a minor connection issue. It does not signal a heat or gas problem. Still, a code that keeps returning deserves a proper test so the probe programs work when you need them.
Still unsure about F4 E7?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
