Maytag MGC4430BD Gas Cooktop Repair

Most common issues on this model

  1. Burner that clicks but does not light
  2. Burner that lights then goes out
  3. Yellow or uneven flame
  4. Gas smell near the cooktop

The MGC4430BD is a Maytag gas cooktop, also sold as MGC4430BDB, MGC4430BDC and MGC4430BDW. It is built into a counter cutout, fed by a gas line below, and needs a standard outlet for its spark ignition.

If a burner clicks but will not light, we clean the burner ports and check the spark electrode and the cap seating before anything else, because a damp or dirty burner is the most common reason. A burner that lights and then goes out points to the electrode position or a weak gas supply to that burner. A yellow flame suggests poor air mixing. If you ever smell gas, shut the valve and call us.

We test every joint we open for leaks and tell you the result. We confirm the full number from the label before ordering, quote the price in writing and give a 30-day workmanship warranty.

MGC4430BDMGC4430BD questions
My burner clicks but will not light. What do you do?

We clean the ports, dry the burner and check that the cap sits correctly and the electrode is close to the burner. If it still will not light, we test the ignition switch and module.

Is a yellow flame a problem?

It can mean poor air mixing or a partly blocked burner, and it leaves soot on pans. We clean and adjust the burner and check the gas supply pressure to it.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Turn off the cooktop and the supply valve, open a window, and call us. Do not use switches or flames. We will test the connections after finding the cause.
