What Beeping or Audio Tones means
When a Maytag electric cooktop beeps or sounds audio tones on its own, the control is usually reading something pressing on the touchpad. Food, liquid, residue, or an object resting on the user interface can look to the control like a held key. This applies to Maytag radiant, smoothtop and induction cooktops. You hear tones and may see lights flash, and the cooktop may not respond to normal use. Clearing whatever is on the panel often silences it, and a power reset follows if the tones continue.
Common causes of Beeping or Audio Tones
- Spill, food film, or moisture on the touch controls
- A pot, lid, or utensil resting against the control area
- Touchpad that reads a key as permanently pressed
- Power reset still pending after the panel is clean
1. Make sure every surface control is off. 2. Take any pan, lid, or object off the control area. 3. Wipe the touchpad with a soft damp cloth, then dry it. 4. Still beeping? Flip the cooktop's breaker(s) off for a minute and back on. 5. Stay nearby for a minute to hear whether the tones come back.
- If the tones return on a clean, empty panel, the touchpad or its connection may be reading a key falsely
- We test the touchpad separately from the control board so we do not replace the wrong part
- The price is written down and agreed with you before any part is ordered
Other Cooktop codes
Why does my cooktop beep when nobody is touching it?
The touchpad cannot tell a finger from moisture, grease, or an object pressing on it. Anything that covers a key for a few seconds can make the control sound a tone.
Will cleaning the panel fix it?
In many cases yes, especially after a spill or when a pan handle has rested on the glass. Dry the panel completely before trying the cooktop again.
Is it safe to use the cooktop while it beeps?
It is safer to leave it off until the tones stop. If you can switch everything off and the beeping carries on, turn off the breaker and call us.
