What F0 or F00 means

F0 and F00 on a Maytag electric or induction cooktop mean something is pressing on the control panel. Objects, liquids, or soil on the touch controls are registered as a key held down, and the control shows the code. You may also notice the cooktop ignoring normal commands. Remove whatever is left on the control area and wipe the panel clean. If the code stays on, the brand's instruction is to switch the breaker off for one minute, switch it back on, and watch for another minute.

Common causes of F0 or F00

  • Pan, lid or utensil resting on the controls
  • Liquid or soil across the touch keys
  • Touchpad registering a key as pressed
  • Control that needs a reset after the surface is clean
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn off all surface controls. 2. Clear anything off the control area and wipe away debris. 3. Next, switch the cooktop's breaker(s) off for one minute and on again. 4. Spend a minute watching the display for the code. 5. If it is gone, try a pan on a cooking area.

! Why to stop there
  • If F0 or F00 returns on a clean, empty panel, the touchpad may be reading a false press
  • We check the touchpad and its connection before the power board
  • You see a written price first, and the work carries a 30-day workmanship warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F0 or F00F0 or F00 questions
Are F0 and F00 the same?

They carry the same meaning and the same checks. Which one you see depends on the cooktop's display, and both usually clear once the control area is clean and dry.

What if I only see it after cooking?

Steam, boil-overs, or a pan placed too close to the keys are common triggers. Clean and dry the panel and keep pans away from the controls.

Do I need the breaker reset every time?

No. Clean the panel first, because that fixes most cases. Use the one-minute breaker reset only if the code stays after cleaning, and call us if it keeps coming back even on a clean, dry, empty panel.
