What F25 means

An F25 code on a Maytag electric or induction cooktop means there is a problem with the power supply to the cooktop. The control is not seeing the supply it needs, so heat may stop and the display shows the code. This applies to Maytag radiant, smoothtop and induction cooktops. The brand's instruction is a one-minute breaker reset and a one-minute watch, and if the code reoccurs, it says to contact a qualified electrician for the supply.

Common causes of F25

  • Breaker, fuse or supply wiring to the cooktop
  • Loose connection at the cooktop's terminal block
  • Power board that senses the supply
  • Voltage that drops under load
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch the cooktop's breaker(s) off and leave them off for one minute. 2. Switch them on. 3. Wait a minute, then check that the cooktop works. 4. If F25 reoccurs, stop trying and have a qualified electrician look at the circuit.

! Why to stop there
  • If the supply tests well, the cooktop's board may be the cause, and we say so plainly
  • We measure the supply at the cooktop to see where the problem lies
  • You get a written price before any part is ordered
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F25F25 questions
Why does the guidance mention an electrician?

The code points at the power supply, which is house wiring. If it returns after a reset, a qualified electrician should check the circuit, and we check the cooktop.

Can a tripped breaker cause F25?

A breaker that is partly tripped or weak may give the cooktop too little supply. Check that the handle is fully on, reset it once if it tripped, and call us if the code still returns afterward.

Is the cooktop dangerous?

A supply problem should be treated with care. If F25 repeats, leave the cooktop off and call a qualified electrician for the circuit, and we can check the cooktop itself once the supply is confirmed.
